Design Strategies
• Zoning: Create zones based on fire risk, with the highest risk areas receiving the most attention in terms of fire-resistant landscaping.
• Hardscaping: Incorporate non-flammable materials like stone or gravel in pathways and patios to further reduce fire risk.
Implementing these strategies can significantly enhance the safety of homes in wildfire-prone areas.

FIREWISE LANDSCAPING
Firewise landscaping is essential for protecting homes in Utah from wildfires. This approach focuses on creating defensible spaces around properties by using fire-resistant plants and strategic landscaping techniques. Key Principles
• Defensible Space: Establish a buffer zone around the home to minimize fire risk. This includes maintaining a distance of at least 30 feet from flammable vegetation.
• Plant Selection: Use native, drought-resistant plants that are less likely to ignite. Examples include sagebrush, junipers, and other firewise plants suitable for Utah's climate.
• Irrigation: Keep plants well-watered to reduce flammability. This is particularly important during dry seasons.
• Maintenance: Regularly clear debris, dead plants, and leaves from the landscape to prevent fire fuel accumulation.
